A New You for the New Year
Every new year brings with it the potential for new adventures. I don’t know how you’re feeling at the moment, but I’m incredibly excited about what 2019 has in store for me.
But, alas, it wasn’t always like that.
Let me take you back to a time in my life almost 20 years ago…
Imagine me. Sitting at my work desk feeling dishevelled and overwhelmed. It’s the first week in January, I’m back at work and suffering from the indulgences of Christmas and New Year celebrations. I’ve had words with my husband and he’s unhappy with me, the children think I’m the wicked witch from the west because I can’t seem to get anything sensible organised for them and they hate having to go to day care. I’m feeling totally unmotivated by my work situation and my boss has already pissed me off (he’s my husband by the way…) And, to top it all off, I’ve already failed at meeting my own lofty expectations around the resolutions that I’ve set for myself for the coming year. All I can think about is getting to the end of the day and the large glass of wine (or something stronger) that’s going to take all my misery away.
Just over a week of a brand new year gone and I’m already feeling like a complete failure.
Every January felt like some kind of cosmic ground-hog day to me and, the older I got, the harder it seemed at the beginning of every new year to get myself into some kind of organised state.
I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I had all the best intentions in the world, but then I simply couldn’t find a way to turn those good intentions into any kind of forward momentum.
If you can relate to any of the above, don’t despair. There is a solution and I eventually found it.
I’m thrilled to tell you that those dark days in my life have gone…forever.
It wasn’t until I started journaling and writing things down (and I put the cork in the bottle and stopping drinking) that I could make any kind of headway with my life.
