Regularly reviewing your morning routine

Now that you’ve got this great morning routine in place and you’ve made it a habit, why would you want to review it?

Good question…

With your routine firmly fixed in place, you no longer have to spend a lot of energy or time thinking about what you do to start your day--you’re running on autopilot.

“But that’s a good thing, Toni,” I can hear you say and you wouldn’t be too wrong, except that you still need to check in to make sure that you’re moving towards your greater long term goals. You don’t want to get into the habit of doing something that’s moving you further away from your particular mountain.

Now that your routine is firmly fixed in place, it’s easy to just keep doing it, even if your circumstances or your goals change. That’s why I like to regularly review my morning routine to make sure that it’s still serving me. How often you might ask? I like to take a look at least every quarter--just to make sure that life is still on track. Make a note in your diary, or your daily journal ahead of time--then you don’t have to worry about checking in with yourself.

When you sit down to do your review (of your morning, or of any of your habits in fact) these are the questions that you need to ask yourself:

Is this working?

Is it working really well, or are we all just getting by?

If things are working: nothing to change here. Good job!

If a little tweak here or there is needed, tweak away.

What do you love? What do you hate?

Hang in there with the love and strip the hate right out of those routines. The idea is to get as close as you can to loving everything about your life. I know that’s a big ask...but we’re big askers here :-)

See any change that needs to be made as an adjustment that’s moving you closer to your goal and your particular mountain. If your goals change--switch things around. There’s no reason to be making time for a regular run if you’ve injured your knee. Use the time that’s become available for something else more productive and useful.

Keep on tweaking and improving and life will continue to get better and better.

I promise.

Love Toni x
